Kim Milky Pushes For New PMAC

Kim Mulkey, the head coach of the LSU women's basketball team, has called for a replacement or renovation of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC) on LSU's campus. In a recent interview, Mulkey expressed her concerns about the outdated facility and its impact on the team's performance.

According to Mulkey, the PMAC, which was built in 1972, is in dire need of upgrades. She cited several issues, including the lack of air conditioning in the arena, the cramped locker rooms, and the outdated training facilities. Mulkey believes these issues are holding back the team and making it difficult for them to compete at the highest level.

Mulkey's call for a new facility or renovation is not new. LSU officials have been discussing plans to upgrade the PMAC for several years, but concrete action still needs to be taken. The COVID-19 pandemic has also delayed any potential plans.

Despite the challenges, Mulkey is optimistic about the future. She believes LSU has the resources to build a state-of-the-art facility to help the team reach its full potential. Mulkey also noted that a new facility could attract top talent to the program, which would help LSU compete with the best teams in the country.

LSU's athletic director, Scott Woodward, has also acknowledged the need for a new facility. In a recent statement, Woodward said that LSU is committed to providing its student-athletes with the best possible resources to succeed on and off the court. He also noted that the university is exploring several options for the PMAC, including a complete renovation or a new facility.

In the meantime, Mulkey and her team will continue to compete at the PMAC. Despite its outdated facilities, the arena holds a special place in LSU's basketball history. It is named after the legendary LSU basketball player Pete Maravich, who played for the Tigers in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The arena has also hosted numerous memorable moments in LSU basketball history, including the team's 2006 Final Four run.

However, as Mulkey noted, it's time for a change. The PMAC has served its purpose, but LSU needs a modern facility that can keep up with the demands of today's college basketball landscape. With Mulkey at the helm, LSU women's basketball has a bright future ahead. A new facility would only help to further the program's success.
