The LSU Tigers baseball team had an electric weekend at The Box as they swept No. 10 Tennessee, improving their record to 25-3 and 7-2 in the SEC. The Tigers entered the weekend after a top-10 series victory over No. 3 Arkansas and continued their winning ways against Tennessee.
In the opening game of the series, LSU’s Paul Skenes faced off against Tennessee’s Chase Dollander, both of whom are projected top-5 picks in this year’s MLB draft. Skenes showed why he should be the No. 1 pitcher in the draft, throwing 12 strikeouts and allowing just one run in 7.0 innings. Although Dollander pitched well, Skenes was the dominant force on the mound, leading the Tigers to a 5-2 victory.
Gavin Dugas blasted a two-run moonshot in the fifth inning to give LSU their first lead of the night. The Vols tied the game in the eighth, but the Tigers fought back, loading the bases before Jordan Thompson hit a ball through the right field gap to clear the bases and take a 5-2 lead.
The LSU Tigers fans showed up in record numbers, providing a loud and electric atmosphere at The Box. The Tigers hoped to carry this momentum into the second game of the series.
