Dennis Barnes, a senior at the International High School of New Orleans, has made history by being awarded over $9 million in scholarships from 125 colleges and universities. This accomplishment breaks the previous record set by a Louisiana senior who received $8.7 million in 2019.
Barnes, who hails from Marrero, Louisiana, has a cumulative GPA of 4.98 and is currently enrolled at Southern University of New Orleans, where he is earning college credit while still in high school. His plan is to earn a dual degree in Computer Science and Criminal Justice.
When asked about his success, Barnes credits his focus and dedication to his studies. "The road to a successful future is to plan ahead, network with the collegiate partners, and know that if you can see your vision, you can achieve your goal," he said.
Barnes' dedication to his studies extends beyond the classroom. He has been an active member of the National Honor Society and has maintained straight A's since elementary school. He is also fluent in Spanish and has received the "Diplomas en Español" granted by the Institute Cervantes on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports.

He served as the Executive President of the National Honor Societies and received the Jose Luis Baños Award for Excellence in Spanish Language from Maria Page, Honorary Consul of Spain in New Orleans.
